Badakhshan traffic accidents this year claim 20 lives

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): At least 20 people, including seven children, have died and another 31 been injured in 48 traffic accidents during the outgoing year in northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Thursday.

Provincial traffic department head Sewash Hafizi told Pajhwok Afghan News that 80 percent of illegal and unlicensed vehicles were involved in these accidents which caused causalities to civilians.

He said the outgoing year saw 15 traffic accidents happening on highways, 20 in villages and townships and 13 others at squares and urban areas.

He said 20 persons, including seven children, had died and two women and eight children among 31 others who have been injured in the 48 traffic accidents throughout the province.

Hafizi added in order to reduce traffic accidents, they conducted 11 driving courses for 300 drivers during the last two years.

He said most traffic accidents resulted from drivers’ lack of acknowledge and familiarity with traffic regulations.
