LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): At least five policemen have been killed and two others wounded in a Taliban attack in southern Helmand province, an official said on Thursday.
A security source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants stormed a security check-post in Kajaki district late on Wednesday night.
The source said five police personnel were killed and two others wounded. A third policeman has been missing.
Omar Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed the incident but did not provide details. Taliban also verified the overnight attack.
Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, the group’s spokesman, said four policemen were killed, two wounded and weapons and ammunition captured by rebels.
Policemen manning a check-post were mysteriously killed in the Malgir area of Greshk district, another security source revealed. However, did not give further information about the incident.
Ahmadi wrote on his Twitter account that fighters in police ranks had killed seven policemen and captured six weapons in Spin Jumat area of Greshk district.
