Balkh police chief says every illegal gunman being chased

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The police chief for northern Balkh province says every illegal armed man and group is being chased and would be referred to judicial organs upon arrest.

Brig. Gen. Abdul Raqib Mubarez made the remarks while handing over some captured weapons to the Disarmament of Illegal Armed Groups (DIAG) program officials in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh, on Saturday.

He said police yesterday launched their crackdown on illegal armed individuals and arrested 34 illegal armed men and confiscated some undocumented vehicles on the day one in Mazar-i-Sharif.

He said police were trying to clear Mazar-i-Sharif from illegal armed individuals.  “We will go to houses and bases where illegal armed men exist, you will see we will arrest them and hand them over to the judicial organs.”

Mubarez said police who were responsible to protect people’s lives and properties would not allow anyone to perform illegal acts.

He said weapons confiscated by police were being investigated by special team and licensed arms would be returned to their owners.
