MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): The provincial Mines Department of eastern Laghman province says unauthorized extraction of sand and rocks has been stopped in the province and a contract for their legal extraction would be signed soon.

On March 27, Pajhwok Afghan News in a report revealed that a company continued to receive money from sand and rock mining in Laghman despite the end of its contract in May, 2017.

Najibullah Attayee, head of Laghman’s mines department, told Pajhwok Afghan News the illegal charges on rock and sand mining had been stopped and no one would be allowed to arbitrary apply charges or transfer construction materials without a contract.

He said they had earlier faced problems due to shortage of personnel to approach to all tasks.

However, he added his department in cooperation with security organs stopped illegal tax collection and their officials used to visit the rock and sand deposits thrice a week.

Attayee said the sand and rock mining issue had been shared with the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum and a new contract for thier extraction would be signed soon.

Spin Ghar Talak Company on average charged every truck 80 to 150 rupees and around 150 trucks were daily loaded, with the collections amounting to 400,000 afghanis a month since May 2017.
