Doha conference not a wedding party: Taliban

KABUL say a limited number of political and national figures on a list of 250 people released by the Kabul administration will be invited to the intra-Afghan talks in Doha.

In a statement, the militant movement made clear that no one would be allowed to represent the government in Kabul at the planned conference in the Qatari capital.

“If any participant is affiliated with the Kabul administration, as was the case at the Moscow conference, he will present in a personal capacity and express personal views. No one is allowed to represent the government,” the group said.

“Those who have drawn up the list must realise this is an orderly and prearranged conference in a far-away Gulf country and not an invitation to a wedding or another party at a hotel in Kabul,” the Taliban remarked.

The statement said the Kabul government has released a list of 250 participants for the conference but the hosts had no plans of accepting so many people from Kabul. Large-scale participation isn’t normal at such conferences.

Only a limited number of political and national figures would be on the final list of participants, the Taliban clarified.

On Tuesday, the government issued a list of 250 people, including 52 women, who will participate in the upcoming intra-Afghan dialogue in Doha.

The meeting is expected to take place from April 19 to 21 between individuals on the list and Taliban representatives.
