Money set aside for Loya Jirga be given to poor families: Jalili

KABUL for peace, but says it would be better if the money set aside for the event is distributed to floods-affected families who are suffering from extreme poverty.

The presidential hopeful told a press conference here on Thursday that Afghanistan was in ‘a sensitive situation’ which needed more consultations.

Jalili backed President Ghani’s move to convene the Loya Jirga but stressed its costs should be used to help floods affected families and poverty-stricken people.

“I and those associated with me, who are to attend the Loya Jirga, will bear their expenses themselves and we also request others to do the same,” he said.

Jalili said he was ready to share his advices about peace with the president and invite other people from provinces to Kabul for discussion on the issue.

He said traditional gatherings should be organized instead of symbolic meetings for establishing peace in the country.

He stressed no one should use meetings such as the Loya Jirga as a tool for election campaign. He said any gatherings regarding peace should be held inside in the country because foreign based meetings had so far been ineffective.

A meeting between Afghan politicians and Taliban representatives was scheduled for April 19, but it was postponed for an indefinite time due to some problems.
