TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): The Provincial Council of central Uruzgan province on Wednesday claimed the provincial police chief arrested one of its members and held him captive for 12 hours at his ‘private jail.’
Provincial Council secretary Abdul Karim Khadimzai told a press conference in Tirinkot, the provincial capital, that Police Chief Col. Khitab Khanjari arrested PC member Mohammad Zahir Nadari late Tuesday night and kept him for 12 hours at his private room.
He said later PC members intervened and managed to release Nadari from the illegal detention.
Meanwhile, Provincial Council chairman Amir Khan Barikzai about Nadari’s arrest said that the police chief should explain his action.
He said, “If there was any case against Nadari, it should have been first shared with the council.”
Meanwhile, Zahir Nadari told Pajhwok the police chief arrested him for no reason and kept him detained for 12 hours at his personal room.
He alleged the police chief wanted to kidnap him, but the council members got informed and released him.
However, Police Chief Khitab Khanjari did not specifically say anything about Nadari’s arrest, but said they had previously announced that individuals who possessed government weapons and ammunition should hand them over to police or face legal action. “The law will be enforced equally on all,” he added.
