BRUSSELS (Pajhwok): NATO should enter to intra-Afghan dialogue.
Addressing media representatives in Belgium on the sideline of NATO Defense Ministers summit, Kay called on Taliban to be ready for intra-Afghan talks.
The 7th round of talks between US special representative for Afghanistan’s reconciliation process, Zalmay Khalilzad and representatives of Taliban on Afghan peace will take place on June 29 in Qatar.
For reaching a stable peace in Afghanistan, the Taliban should be ready for intra-Afghan negotiations, he said.
Referring to a question about NATO’s role in Afghanistan in the future after peace agreement, Kay informed, the alliance remained committed to continue providing support to Afghanistan so that the country did not become a safe haven for international terrorists again.
He said NATO’s fundamental commitment was training, advising and assisting. Kay also called on the Independent Election Commission (IEC) to continue its preparations for holding credible presidential elections.
