Eye hospital doctors go on strike in Balkh

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Doctors of the Noor Eye Hospital in northern Balkh province on Saturday went on strike in protest against the hospital’s administrator who they called as unprofessional.

The striking doctors said the hospital’s head was not fit for the post because he had not pursued higher studies in medical.

They said the hospital head had been serving on the post for the last many years despite having no knowledge of medical sciences.

One of the doctors, Shujauddin Zamari, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Noor Eye Hospital in Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital, had long been run by the unprofessional person.

He said the hospital was 25 years old but it still had no proper building and as a result, doctors and patients faced numerous problems.

He asked the Ministry of Public Health to introduce a professional person as head of the hospital.

Another protesting doctor, Fardin Fazli, said their strike was against interference of non-professional persons in the hospital leadership in the professional affairs of doctors.

He said there had been no improvement in the hospital’s affairs during the past 15 years. The hospital lacked a building of its own and its income went into private pockets, he said.
