5 dead, 30 injured in Quetta explosion

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Five people have been killed and 30 others injured in a powerful explosion in Pakistan’s southwestern city of Quetta, officials say.

The target of Tuesday’s attack was a police vehicle parked near a police station the capital of Balochistan province, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abdul Razzaq Cheema told reporters.

Unknown terrorists were blamed for attaching the bomb in a motorbike, parked close to the police patrol vehicle. The device was detonated by remote control.

Security forces and rescuers rushed to the site and shifted the injured to the Quetta Civil Hospital. Emergency was declared in all government hospitals.

Several cars and motorcycles were badly damaged in the blast, which also harmed nearby buildings.

The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the explosion, the second in Quetta in a week.

On July 23, a blast had occurred in the Eastern Bypass area of the city, killing four people and injuring 32 others.
