Balkh, Nangarhar sign mutual cooperation accords

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Mutual cooperation agreements in various fields were inked on Wednesday between the municipalities of northern Balkh and eastern Nangarhar provinces, an official said.

The cooperation agreements were signed in areas of culture, economic, business, social development and sharing experiences at a ceremony in Balkh City, the capital of Balkh province.

A number of government officials, deputy director of the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) Abdul Baqi Popal attended the agreement’s signing ceremony.

Popal told Pajhwok Afghan News that under the memorandum, facilities would be provided to residents of the two provinces visiting historic places in certain provinces.

He said both sides would also try to provide facilities to investors of both provinces to invest in the two provinces.

Meanwhile, Balkh governor Mohammad Ishaq Rahgozar said mutual cooperation agreements between cities were usual in different spheres of life.

He said Nangarhar and Balkh were economical, commercial, cultural and historical provinces of the country and transit routes could help each other.

Acting Jalalabad Mayor Rohullah Amini told Pajhwok after the agreement that all opportunities would be availed in both provinces.

He said Nangarhar and Balkh have customs which needed cooperation and management.

The IDLG deputy director said they were trying to connect all key provinces in order to provide social facilities to people.
