Kunduz Zonal Hospital without medicines since 8 months

KUNUZ CITY (Pajhwok): The Zonal Hospital of northern Kunduz province has no medicines and the patients purchase drugs from private medicine stores, local residents and the Provincial Council members said on Saturday.

Hospital authorities said medicines needed for initial treatment had finished and they did not sign the new contract.

Abdul Momin, a local resident who brought a patient to the hospital, said he was told by the doctor to buy medicines from outside as there was no medicine available in the hospital.

“I came here from the Kisham district of Badakhshan, I don’t have money and the doctor told me to purchase everything from Bazaar,” he said.

Bismallah, another resident who brought a patient to the hospital, also said doctor told him to buy medicines from outside.

Provincial Council Head YousufAyubi said there had been no medicines in the Zonal Hospital from the past eight months and they received public complaints in this regard.

“Every day people complain to us regarding absence of medicine in the hospital. We shared the issue to higher authorities but no action had been taken so far,” he said.

Hospital Director NaeemMangal said eight months had passed from the fiscal year and there was no agreement inked for the purchase of medicines for the Zonal Hospital.

He said the issue had been shared with authorities in Kabul who assured the issue to be addressed.
