JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Police arrested 45 alleged drug smugglers during dozens of operations during the past month in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said Monday.
Police conducted 43 raids in various parts of the province and recovered 1,200 kilograms of drug from the detainees, who were paraded before media persons at the police headquarters along with the drugs.
Police Chief Bg. Gen. Abdul Raqib Mubariz told a press conference in this regard here that the counternarcotics police carried out 43 joint and special operations during the past one month.
He said 25 special operations were conducted by police and another 18 operations jointly with Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and intelligence operatives.
Mubariz said 45 suspects have been detained along with 1,220 kilograms of drugs in the period. He said 15 vehicles and three weapons were also discovered from the detainees.
Cases of a number of detainees have been under investigation and some have been introduced to the attorney office for further investigation, he added.
The police chief said the operations were carried out in the provincial capital, Jalalabad, Khogyani, Surkhod, Behsud and Rodat districts.
