SHARAN (Pajhwok): The central bank or Da Afghanistan Bank on Saturday launched a campaign to promote daily transactions in the Afghan currency in southeastern Paktika province.
As part of the drive, school bags, pens and notebooks written slogans to promote the afghani were distributed among students of five schools. The campaign kicked off from a girls’ school named Noriana in Sharan, the provincial capital.
Fazel Rahman Wiar, Da Afghanistan Bank head for Paktika, said they should make all-out efforts at promoting the usage of Afghan banknotes.
He called on residents of the provinces to use afghani instead of foreign currencies during their daily shopping.
Provincial Education Director Mohammad NaseemWajid welcomed the campaign and said every citizen should participate in it. He called for extension of the campaign to districts as well.
Sheer Ahmad, a member of the parent council of Norania School, thanked DAB officials and the provincial education department for working to strengthen what he called national identity (Afghanistan currency).
Noor Khan, a shopkeeper in Paktika, said most transactions in the province took place in Pakistani rupees.
