4 soldiers among 5 wounded in Kabul attack

KABUL (Pajhwok): Four Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers and a civilian were injured in a hand grenade attack in Kabul on Monday morning.

Nasrat Rahimi, spokesman for the Ministry of Interior (MoI), said the attack took place close to the Kabul Military Training Centre (KMTC) at around 7:30am.

Four ANA personnel and a civilian were injured after unidentified individuals lobbed two hand grenades at the soldiers in the 9th police district.

He said the injured were evacuated to hospital and their condition is said to be stable.

Initially, the MoI spokesman said it was a suicide attack but later he called the incident a hand grenade assault.

According to eyewitnesses, two explosions were heard in the area, which resulted in closure of the Kabul-Jalalabad highway for traffic.

Rahimi added no arrest had been made so far but police had launched a search in the area. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the incident.
