1 security official killed, 5 injured in Taliban attack

MAIMANA (Pajhwok): One security officer has been killed and five others have been wounded in a Taliban attack Faryab province, an official said on Saturday.

Abdullah Masoomi, administrative chief for Khwaja Sabzposh district, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants stormed a security-check post from several directions on Friday night.

He said one security official was killed and five others were wounded in the ensuing clash that lasted three hours.

But Mansour Azizi, reserve police unit commander in the area, said a public uprising member was killed and five others were wounded.

A local Taliban commander said the militants overran a village and a check-post. He added security official was killed seven others were wounded by the rebels, who also captured weapons and ammunition.

Mohammad Akbar, an inhabitant of the area, told Pajhwok: “My brother Sunatullah, a graduate from the Political Science faculty, joined the pro-government force due to unemployment.”
