7 soldiers killed in Taliban attack on military base

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): At least seven Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers have been killed in a Taliban attack in northern Balkh province, the Ministry of Defence said on Tuesday.

In a statement, the ministry said the incident took place in Dawlatabad district on Monday night. Seven soldiers were killed and three ANA others injured.

Three of National Directorate of Security (NDS) personnel were also wounded in the overnight attack in the district, where the security situation is worsening.

But another source, requesting not to be named because he was not allowed to speak to the media, claimed the number of security forces’ casualties was higher.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed the movement’s fighters overran a military base and killed 20 soldiers, including a commander. Several others were wounded.
