Interior Ministry asked to increase Khost police strength

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): A number of civil society activists in southeastern Khost province on Wednesday urged the Ministry of Interior to increase police strength and privileges in the province.

They made the demand at a conference titled “Sovereignty of law and insurance of social system” in Khost City, the provincial capital.

Hasina Jalil, deputy interior minister for strategy and policy, was also present at the gathering.

Faridullah Qurban, a civil society activist, told the gathering that Khost residents had always supported the government in implementation of national programs but the government never paid attention to them.

He said recently police strength was decreased in the province, rendering the remaining force unable to stabilize situation of the province.

Sayed AsgharAkakhel, a member of the provincial council, said almost four months back, Khost was declared as first grade province under a presidential decree but the province continued to enjoy privileges of the second grade.

Governor Mohammad Halim Fidai, addressing the meeting, said Khost province should be provided facilities and strength of police as per its first grade status.

Meanwhile, Hasina Jalil said the Interior Ministry planned to professionally train police so they enforce laws in a good manner.

She promised to share the police shortage issue with the authorities concerned. She added without people’s cooperation, police could not implement laws in a society.
