PTM lawmaker, supporters arrested in Islamabad

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): A Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) member of the National Assembly was arrested in Islamabad on Tuesday, police said.

Kohsar police Station House Officer (SHO) Akhtar Ali said MNA Mohsin Dawar was detained along with 15 workers of PTM.  Independent sources, however, claimed the number of detainees was higher.

While protesting the arrest of their leader Manzoor Pashteen station outside the National Press Club, the PTM legislator and members were moved to the Kohsar police station.

A large number of protesters were taken to other police stations in the federal capital. Politicians Afrasiab Khattak and Bushra Gohar were also part of the demonstration.

Protests against Pashteen’s arrest were also staged in Mir Ali, Tank, Miranshah, Peshawar, Zhob and other areas.

In Peshawar, PTM workers and supporters gathered outside the press club to demand the immediate release of Pashteen.

Also on Tuesday, a demonstration was staged outside the Karachi Press Club. PTM supporters and members of civil society took part in the protest.

Following his arrest in the wee hours of Monday, Pashteen was sent to Peshawar’s central jail on a 14-day judicial remand.
