JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Nearly 3,000 acres of land will be planted with fruit orchards in various districts of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Monday.
InamullahMiakhel, the Agriculture Department spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that efforts were underway to establish 2,500 to 3,000 fruit orchards next year in the province.
Currently, 5,000 acres of land has been planted with fruit trees and 2,000 were established in 2019, he added.
He said gardens in Nangarhar produced 10,000 tons of various fruits and provided to the bazar.
He further said fruit gardens would be established based on farmers interest and farmers would receive needy materials as well.
Ghulam Rasool, a farmer in Kama district, who has planted peach on one acres of land and earned 60,000 afghanis in income last year.
He was also happy with cultivation and outcome of different types of vegetables at his fields.
A number of other growers expressed similar views and were happy with fruit plants outcome and urged the government to help them finding market for their produce.
