Khalilzad, Ghani confer on reduction of violence

KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani and US Special Envoy for Afghan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad have discussed reduction of violence and its management.

In a statement, the Presidential Palace said the two leaders met on Wednesday evening and conferred on issues related to reduction of violence.

Khalilzad briefed Ghani, who has secured a second term as president, on future steps towards reining in violence. The Taliban have offered to halt attacks in the country for a few days.

When the violence reduction period will begin us not yet known, but some sources say it would go into effect on Saturday.

The US and Taliban would ink a deal on the 8th day of violence reduction and intra-Afghan talks would begin soon afterwards.
