KABUL (Pajhwok): Amid mounting global concerns over coronavirus, US President Donald Trump has tested negative for the deadly disease, his physician said on Saturday.

The US leader underwent the test after he met several members of a Brazilian presidential delegation visiting his Florida resort. The visitors have since tested positive for the virus.

Sean Conley, his physician, was quoted as saying in a memo on Saturday by AFP: “This evening, I received confirmation that the test is negative.”

New York, the most populous US city, saw its first coronavirus death on Saturday, as store shelves were stripped bare after days of panic buying.

Meanwhile, Vice-President Mike Pence said a travel ban on European nations over the pandemic would be extended to the UK and Ireland Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said: “If you don’t have to travel, I wouldn’t do it. We want this thing to end. We don’t want a lot of people getting infected.”
