Balkh police address 1,800 crimes via 119 helpline

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): As many as 1,800 cases have been addressed via police 119 helpline number in northern Balkh province, an official said on Monday.

Abdul WasiAlemi, the 119 police number department head, told Pajhwok Afghan News they addressed more than 1,800 cases in the province last year.

He said these cases included terrorist activities, criminal and drug smuggling, adding the police 119 helpline played an important role in improving security in Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital.

He said the last year saw police discovering and defusing above 1,000 landmines with people’s cooperation.

He said, “We are thankful to people for their cooperation in allowing terrorists groups to create insecurity for countrymen.”  He said the identity of a person contacting 119 number was kept secret.

Zarifa Qazidah, a resident of the provincial capital, told Pajhwok that the police 119 contact number played a crucial role in combating crimes.

Sayed Abbas, another resident of Mazar-Sharif, said the police 119 number was good for people, urging further measures in this regard.
