President Ghani orders reforms in Education Ministry

KABUL (MoE) to develop a reform package based on requirements and effective methods in the ministry.

A statement from the Presidential Palace received by Pajhwok Afghan News said the president talked with MoE leadership via a video conference today.

The source quoted Ghani as saying that consensus for changes and reforms in MoE existed, but current the ministry’s current composition  was a great challenge for improvement.

He said besides focusing on real problems, management and human resources could empower the education system.

Ghani said current situation of the ministry should no longer continue. “Management in the education ministry is mostly traditional and reforms and modernizing the system should be taken into account in the reform plan, he said.

A special attention should be paid to children in deprived areas of the country for delivering a balanced education, he said. He added that education should be part of the National Citizen Charter program.

Stressing prevention of resources loss, the president said the education curriculum should be adjusted to market demand.

Education for children returning to the country from abroad and problems of students should be also considered in the reform plan, he said.

A five-year roadmap for education should be prepared and it should contain a clear contract between the people and the ministry, he said.
