‘People with corona symptoms must pray at home’

KABUL to create a joint commission on combating coronavirus and advised people to follow guidelines.

First reported in December in the city of Wuhan in central China’s Hubei Province, experts attributed the outbreak to a novel coronavirus that has since spread across the globe. The confirmed cases of coronavirus have been reported in 160 countries so far.

According to reports, around 300,000 people have been infected with the virus and nearly another 13,000 people died while a number of individuals have been discharged after their treatment.

Earlier today, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) said 10 new positive cases of coronavirus have been registered in different provinces of the country, including capital Kabul, over the past 24 hours.

Addressing a press conference here, Public Health Minister Ferozuddin Feroz said the number of positive cases in Afghanistan had reached 34.

Abdul Hakim Munib, Minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs, told a gathering that people should seek forgiveness from God frequently, pray for the recovery of those infected. He said safety guidelines offered by the MoPH and medics must be adopted. “Anyone who develops coronavirus symptoms should avoid attending mass prayers in mosques and should quarantine himself as well.”

Doctors say fever, cold, headache, dry cough, and body ache are major symptoms of coronavirus.

The ulemal also issued a resolution letter in this regard, asking people to attend only Fard prayers at mosques and perform Sunnah at homes.

Religious scholars said “Allah (SwT) tells us to ask learned people during difficulties and follow their guidelines.”

The ulema also asked the government and the Taliban to create a joint commission to prevent the spread of coronavirus and Afghan traders should not increase prices of food-items across the country.

Earlier, the Taliban on Thursday urged the international community and donor organisations to take measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus in areas under their control.

ZabihullahMujahid, spokesman for the rebel group, called the coronavirus a disease that Almighty Allah has inflicted on mankind because of disobedience and sins, or for other reasons.

The statement said, “We the Muslims nation must consider this disease a decree of Allah (SwT) and deal with it an accordance with the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).”

In line with advice from religious scholars, Mujahid said in a statement, people should seek forgiveness frequently, pray for their recovery, recite the Holy Quran, give alms and charity and pray to Allah in repentance for their sins.
