Colorado-based US troops due in Afghanistan

KABUL this summer, the US military has announced.

Currently stationed at Fort Carson, it would replace the 3rd Security Forces Assistance Brigade in Afghanistan, Army Times reported on Friday.

As part of Operation Freedom Sentinel, the specialised army units will provide high-end training to their Afghan partners. They have also been involved in Afghan combat operations.

Brig. Gen. Mark H. Landes, head of Security Force Assistance Command, was quoted as saying: “The 4th SFAB is ready to advise, support, liaise and assess our partnered foreign security forces in the CENTCOM AOR.”

“The 4th Infantry Division Combat Aviation Brigade, stationed at Fort Carson, Colo., also is headed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Freedom Sentinel,” Times added.

Deployments to the Middle East are between six and 13 months duration, while rotations to Europe typically last nine months.
