Aibak: 8 killed, 53 wounded in Taliban assault

AIBAK (Pajhwok): At least eight people were killed and more than 50 others injured including military personnel and civilians in a massive explosion that struck the intelligence office in northern Samangan province.

After the heavy blast, two attackers entered the National Directorate of Security (NDS) office in Aibak, the provincial capital, and the ensuing clash lasted for two hours.

Sifatullah Samangani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News there were three attackers, one exploded a Humvee tanker in front of the NDS office gate and the two entered the NDS office.

He said the clash came to an end after the killing of the two assailants at around 12:30pm today.

According to him, a woman was among eight people killed in the incident that left another 53 people, including security personnel and civilians, wounded.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack and said it killed and wounded around 70 NDS personnel. However, government officials rejected the Taliban’s claim.
