KABUL prisoners the government is reluctant to free.

Under the Feb. 29 peace agreement between the United States and the Taliban, Kabul has to free 5,000 Taliban inmates and in return, the militant movement has already released 1,000 government soldiers.

The Consultative Loya Jirga (CLJ) convened into session to debate the release of the controversial Taliban prisoners. The event features 3,500 participants.

Nazeer Zahid, spokesman for the jirga, told Pajhwok Afghan News the work of 33 committees had ended and the remaining 17 bodies would complete their task by noon today.

Zahid added heads of the 50 committees would hold meetings to reach an agreement on the issue by the end of the day. They would their decision tomorrow, he concluded.
