Indian wheat for Afghanistan reaches Chabahar

KABUL, has arrived at the Chabahar port in neighbouring Iran, says a media report.

The ship loaded with the 8,800 tonnes consignment docked at the three-way port in southern Iran earlier in the week, IRNA reported.

Director-General of Ports and Maritime Department of Sistan-Baluchestan Behrouz Aqaei told the news agency the consignment weighed about 8,800 tonnes.

About 1,700 containers with 43,000 tonnes of India-donated wheat for Afghanistan have so far reached the Chabahar port, according to IRNA.

New Delhi plans to donate about 75,000 tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan through Chabahar. The shipments are sent to Afghanistan via the Milak border.

Afghanistan, Iran and India agreed in 2016 to jointly establish a trade route to land-locked Central Asian countries. A year later, India sent its first consignment of wheat to Afghanistan through Chabahar.
