MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Some residents of northern Balkh province on Saturday said those suffered the most in the country’s long-running conflict should be given a greater say in peace talks.
Attending a gathering to mark the International Day of Victims of Terrorism here, the participants also expressed their concern over increasing insecurity.
Hamid Safut, head of civil societies coordination centre, told Pajhwok Afghan News that real peace could be established based on justice.
He said real victims of the war had been ignored in the talks between the Taliban and the US and now they were being ignored in intra-Afghan talks.
Abdul Rahim, 65, who lost eyesight during the four decades of war, said he also lost his 27-year-old son, a border policeman, in line of duty.
Rahim said he desired peace but the peace process remained vague to the Afghans.
Deba, a women rights activist, said there was no representative representative of victims of the war in the possible peace talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban, which she called a matter of concern.
Other participants of the gathering held similar views.
