Over 60 Taliban killed in Zabul operation

QALAT (KABUL have been killed during security forces operation in southern Zabul province, an official said on Saturday.

Deputy Police Chief Col. Fida Mohammad Pirzada said security forces eliminated a group of Taliban in the Jaldak locality west of Qalat.

The group was involved in attacks on Kabul-Kandahar Highway, he said. Sixty-five Taliban including four notorious commanders had been killed, two vehicles, hundreds of motorcycles, tens of weapons and ammunition and 80,000 kilograms of explosives were dismantled during the offensive.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) confirmed the incident but differed with the casualties figures. According to MoD 30 Taliban were killed and eight others injured.

The Taliban have not spoken about the incident.
