Policemen among 8 killed in Kandahar violence

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Two policemen and six militants have been killed as a result of a clash and a blast in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Sunday.

Police spokesman Jamal Nasir Barakzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants attacked security check-posts in Spin Boldak district on Saturday night.

He said four rebels were killed and five others wounded in the ensuing clash. Two policemen were also killed and two others wounded, the official added.

But a security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said four security personnel were killed and two others wounded in the overnight firefight.

Separately, two insurgents were killed by their own bomb in Maiwand district. The Taliban have not yet commented on the incidents.
