KABUL and children, have been killed and 200 others wounded in rain-induced flash floods in different parts of the country, the State Ministry of Natural Disaster Management said on Thursday.
Mohammad Qasim Haidari, policy and mobilisation head at the ministry, told a press conference here the causalities occurred in 13 provinces of the country in the past two days.
He said people also suffered financial losses, with 151 losing their lives and another 200 getting wounded in the seasonal flooding.
At least 200 houses have been destroyed and 150 others damaged, the official said, adding 4,500 trees were uprooted and 322 bridges and 15 shops swept away by the flooding.
Haidari added their rescue team had arrived in Parwan, where it was conducting an operation to recover the missing individuals. Efforts are underway to send assistance to the affected areas.
Meanwhile, Parwan’s Deputy Governor Haseena Effat wrote on her social media account that 100 people had been killed and more than 205 others injured in the flooding.
She said efforts were underway to find the missing people and reuniting them with their families.
A day earlier, President Ashraf Ghani met a number of elders from Parwan and assured them of assistance to the victims’ families.
