JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A solar power project was inaugurated in eastern Nangarhar province three years back to promote industry and resolve the shortage of energy but the project could not completed so far.
Officials then pledged to encourage investment for the installation of solar plates after work on the park is completed.
Toar Malang Shagiwal, head of the Chamber of Industry and Mines, said 14 steel mills in the province awaited energy to resume their work.
He said they were promised solar energy but could not be implemented so far and added if this problem is resolved more investors would be encouraged to invest in the industrial sector.
Shakirullah Sapi, head of the Chamber of Investment and Industry termed lack of electricity a huge hurdle in attracting investment.
He asked officials to implement their promise regarding the installation of solar energy and develop the system.
Ajmal Umar, the Provincial Council (PC) deputy head, said development projects are imaginary and no practical work is performed.
He asked the government to encourage investment for this project if it really wanted to improve industry in Nangarhar.
Ghulam Haidar Faqirzai, head of Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS), said the solar energy project was comprised of three phases. First the construction of boundary wall, second the generation of 40MW electricity and third promoting the capacity to 100 MW.
He said the first phase of Hesar Shahi project which is the construction of boundary wall has been completed and work on the second phase would be completed as well.
He however, did not provide the detail that when the project would be completed.
