Awaiting Taliban’s call to commence talks: Sediqi

KABUL and said its delegation awaited the Taliban call to start talks.

This comes as reports in the media regarding the departure of government delegation to Doha circulating but the delegation has yet to leave Kabul for Doha.

Presidential Spokesperson Sediq Sediqi told reports here that the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan was ready for talks with the Taliban.

“On the behalf of a government we have performed all our responsibilities. Our team is ready and there is nothing delayed. We are waiting the Taliban call to commence talks.”

He said the purpose of talks with the Taliban was ceasefire, ending ongoing conflict and reduction in violence. He alleged the Taliban continued to fight and surged violence.

Sediqi said delay in talks resulted in the continuation of conflict and bloodshed in the country.

He pledged that all affairs related to peace would be led by the government and people would be updated in due time.

He said Alqaeda and other terrorist groups were a threat for the country and its allies and there was need for fight against them.
