Kabul hails EU, Canada stance on Afghan negotiations

KABUL.

On Sunday evening, a joint statement from European Union (EU) heads of mission in Kabul and Canada urged all Afghan political forces to resolutely seize the historic opportunity for lasting peace. They also called for the start of intra-Afghan negotiations without further delay.

In a statement, MoF said it rightly identified the historic opportunity that the talks represented. The government in Kabul fully intended to seize the opportunity to end the conflict through negotiations.

The statement added the government was entering these talks with the spirit of goodwill and constructive intent, as evident from the release of Taliban prisoners, which was recognised as a goodwill gesture to build confidence going beyond the government’s obligations.

Reiterating the call made in the statement, the government urged the Taliban to reciprocate by agreeing to a ceasefire and an immediate reduction of violence, the statement said.

The government shared its vision for an end state of peace talks where all Afghans, women and men, continued to thrive with their fundamental rights intact, the MoF added.

Afghanistan would like to thank the EU and other friendly nations for their unwavering support for the peace process, the statement concluded.
