20 civilians killed, wounded in Kunduz airstrikes

KUNDUZ (Pajhwok): A number of civilians were killed and wounded in airstrikes in Khanabad district of northern Kunduz province on Saturday, a security official said.

The security official, who did not want to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News without elaborating that 20 civilians were killed and wounded in the airstrikes by security forces.

But Brigadier General Mohammad Ali Yazdani, commander of the 217th Pamir Corps in Kunduz, said no civilians were killed in today’s blitz, saying a Taliban base was bombed, with details of casualties being shared later.

Meanwhile, Zabihullah Mujahid, a Taliban spokesman, said that government planes bombed civilian homes in Sayed Ramadan (Nikpai) village of Khanabad district this afternoon.

“During these attacks, 23 civilians, including women and children, were killed, 17 were injured and many people’s homes were destroyed,” he added.

He said the incident took place while there were no movements or military personnel in the area.
