KABUL (Pajhwok): Two pilots were killed as Afghan Air Force MD530 helicopter crashed in Pul-e Khumri city of northern Baghlan province on Thursday, a statement from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) said.
“An Afghan Air Force MD 530 helicopter crashed in Pul-e Khumri city of Baghlan province today due to technical issues. The helicopter crashed in Kaparak area. Unfortunately two pilots were martyred,” the statement said.
Acting Defence Minister Gen. Assadullah Khalid expressed grief over the incident and prayed for the souls of martyrs pilots. He also conveyed his condolences to victims’ families.
MoD says it was investigating the technical issues which resulted in the crash.
Governor Spokesperson Mohammad Nazir Najam confirmed the incident which happened at around 5:00pm due to technical faults in helicopter.
He said two people including pilot were killed in the crash.
Najam said the copter belonged to 217 Pamir Military Corp and arrived in the province for the support for security forces on the ground.
