Kabul, Tehran talk energy cooperation

Iran’s Deputy Energy Minister Homayoun Haeri, who travelled to Afghanistan at the head of a delegation, met Minister of Economy Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, a news report said.

Haeri underlined the need for boosting bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, especially in the field of electricity, the Teheran Times reported on Wednesday.

Arghandiwal stressed the imperative of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the area of development, especially in the field of electricity.

Haeri also met Minister of Foreign Affairs Haneef Atmar, seeking cooperation in the energy sector. Atmar commended Iran’s efforts for the development of his country.

Atmar promised his interlocutor support for every measure for the expansion of relations between the two neighbours, the newspaper added.

A number of Afghan officials were in attendance as the first-ever specialised exhibition, sponsored by Iran’s water and power industry, was inaugurated in Kabul on Tuesday.

More than 70 Iranian firms are showcasing their products and achievements in the energy, urban services, engineering and telecommunications sectors during the three-day event.
