HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has dismissed 46 police officials over negligence in duty, corruption and lack of commitment to performing their responsibilities, an official said on Saturday.

MoI’s Assistant Security Chief Abdul Sabour Qani shared with media persons his assessment and outcome of visit and inspection of the overall security situation of Herat province.

He said in initial stage of his inspection 46 police personnel including the deputy police chief, three police chiefs of Herat City police stations and few other policemen were fired.

He said some detective directors and officers were among those dismissed from their jobs and the reason was their involvement in corruption, lack of intent and negligence while performing their duties and responsibilities.

Qani said assessments in the National Directorate of Security (NDS) and Afghan National Army (ANA) forces in Herat were underway and some personnel and officers from these units would be dismissed as well.

He said that new programs and strategies would be introduced which would help improve the security situation in the province.
