Senate delegation to probe Durand Line fencing

KABUL and tasked a delegation to probe the issue.

Mohammad Hasham Alokozai, a lawmaker from southern Helmand province, said, “Installation of fence by the Pakistani forces is underway inside Kandahar, Paktika, Helmand, Kunar and Nangarhar provinces but our government is silent about it.”

He said a delegation from the house should visit the area to closely observe the area and let people know what was going on the Durand Line.

Mohammad Jan Mangal, another lawmaker from southeastern Paktia province, said, “Fencing on the Durand Line has been practically ongoing but the Afghan government is keeping mum about that.”

A number of other senators expressed similar views and called for formation of a delegation to visit the area.

FazalHadiMuslimyar, the Meshrano Jirga speaker, also confirmed installation of fence by the Pakistani forces on the Durand Line and said a delegation should be appointed to visit the area and report back to the house and the people of Afghanistan.

The upper house with a majority of votes decided to send a delegation of its defense and border affairs commissions to visit the area.

The house also observed Teacher’s International Day and urged the government to increase teachers’ pay.
