Targeted killings surge in Afghanistan: Rights body

KABUL Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) on Sunday said about 945 people suffered causalities in targeted attacks during the past six months across the country.

In a statement, AIHRC said targeted killings have increased besides the ongoing conflict throughout the country.

The statement said 945 people suffered causalities within the past six months of this ongoing year across the country.

It added 533 people were killed and another 412 wounded in the targeted killing incidents.

The commission said 122 people were killed and 72 others wounded in targeted killings during the period in southern Kandahar province alone. Seven women were also among those killed.

The AIHRC statement called on the warning parties to pay attention to civilian lives in the war.

The commission also urged the Afghan government to take serious measures for safety of AIHRC personnel, religious scholars and minority groups.
