WJ summons NSIA head over Persian language comment

KABUL on Monday decided to summon head of the National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) to explain his comment regarding Persian language.

Some youth today (Monday) gathered in front of Shahr-i-Naw Park and protested against the inclusion of Persian language in the foreign languages list.

The Wolesi Jirga or lower house of parliament also debated the issue at today’s session.

Mohammad Ali Akhlaqi, a lawmaker from Ghazni province, said all languages spoken in Afghanistan should be promoted.

“If we do negative politics, its result would dangerous for all. Today a large number of lawmakers discussed this issue as this promotes biasness and prejudice.”

NSIA head Ahmad Javid Rasouli earlier told a press conference that national languages were inducted in the computerized National Identity Card on the basis of codes of the International Standard Organisation and the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology.

He said not only one language, but all national and formal languages had been included in the list of foreign languages. He added Pashto, Turkmen, Balochi and all other languages were included in this list.

Rasouli said: “A number of languages which are spoken in Afghanistan are also spoken in other nations, therefore they are included in the list of foreign and local languages.”
