JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Hundreds of trucks loaded with grapes, tomatoes, onion and potatoes and fruits have been waiting at Torkham crossing to enter Pakistan, drivers said on Wednesday.
Haji Zmari, a businessman from Nangarhar province, said some of the fresh fruits and vegetables had decayed and if the problem was not resolved quickly, the entire materials would be destroyed, which would inflict millions of afghanis in losses on them.
Dawod, a lorry truck driver, said: “It is the fourth day that my truck loaded with vegetables is waiting for entry to Pakistan through Torkham crossing.” He said if permission was not granted to them, the vegetables would rotten.
Officials, however, said the issue was that Pakistan was not allowing more traffic to enter and there was too much rush from public as well.
Governor Spokesperson Attaullah Khogyani said efforts were underway for traffic management at the crossing.
Torkham Transport Director Abdul Qayum acknowledged the problem and said Pakistan allowed a small number of trucks to enter the country from Afghanistan and that was why the problem surfaced.
