MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Tens of students who graduated from Uzbek Language Literature on Wednesday complained the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) was refusing to attest their degrees.
The Higher Education Ministry, however, says the graduates are students of the Ministry of Education (MoE)’s Technical and Professional Institute but they completed two more years of their education in Uzbek Language literature against their profession, therefore the Higher Education Ministry cannot attest their documents.
The MoHE has formed a commission to address this issue.
The 96 students from Faryab, Jawzjan, Sar-i-Pul, Balkh, Samangan, Baghlan, Kunduz, Takhan and Badakhshan provinces had traveled to Uzbekistan in 2017 where they completed two years of their degree program and returned back to the country.
Rohullah Aymaq from Faryab province said: “We, the 96 students, traveled to Uzbekistan in 2017 for studies based on mutual understanding of the presidents of the two countries but now that we have returned, the MoHE is refusing to attest our documents,” he said.
He did not say in which profession he had completed studies but added that the MoHE now refused to attest their degrees because it was against their field of studies.
Aymaq said learning Uzbek language was a condition for the continuation of their higher education in Uzbekistan.
Bismillah Muradi is another student striving for attestation of his degree. He said: “Millions of Uzbek speaking people live in Afghanistan has the right to study and learn in their own language.”
MoHE spokesperson Hamid Obaidi said these students had completed their first two years of higher education in the professional institute of the MoE in natural sciences but they went on for another two years of higher education to Uzbekistan where they studied social sciences which were two different and separate field of studies. He added a commission has been tasked with addressing the issue.
