KABUL (Pajhwok): The Shiekh Zayed hospital in Kabul has two 40-bedded rooms for patients’ relatives, but some attendants say they spend night in the hospital’s courtyard.
A reliable source at the Sheikh Zayed Hospital, told Pajhwok Afghan News the hospital had two rooms (one for men and another for women would inaugurate the facility.
The official said the rooms were previously used by relatives of patients but after their rehabilitation, the rooms were awaited to be reopened by the ministry while patient’s relatives stay in the courtyard despite cold weather.
Mohammad, relative of a patient, told Pajhwok he brought a patient to Sheikh Zayed hospital two days ago and he spent one night at the mosque.
He said: “I have no idea if the hospital has rooms for patients’ relatives. I saw some people sleeping outside and I stayed in the mosque last night.”
A cleaner in the hospital said there was no room for women at the hospital. She said patients relatives had to spend night in the open despite chilly weather.
A Pajhwok reporter asked the cleaner why the two rooms were not open; she responded it should be asked from MoPH.
Officials at the hospital did not allow Pajhwok’s cameraman to take pictures at the hospital or talk to patients and their relatives.
Pajhwok reporter also visited the hospital in the evening and saw dozens of people setting up shelters in the hospital’s courtyard.
Pajhwok contacted Rahmatullah Oryakhel, acting director of Sheikh Zayed Hospital, but he said a letter from the MoPH should be sent for an interview.
Without providing details, he said the two rooms were open for patients’ relatives.
