KABUL (Pajhwok): The Iranian parliament speaker hopes an intra-Afghan dialogue will bring peace and stability to the war-torn neighbour.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf voiced the hope in a meeting with Afghan Ambassador to Iran Abdul Ghafoor Liwal in Tehran on Monday.
Despite pressure from third countries, the involvement of the Afghan government in the talks could lead to peace and stability in Afghanistan, he believed.
According to Mehr News Agency, the speaker noted longstanding cooperative relations and cultural commonalities between neighbours. “Iran and Afghanistan have always enjoyed brotherly relations…”
Ghalibaf regretted the recent terrorist barrages on different targets in Kabul. “Iran has always emphasised on establishing peace and security in Afghanistan.”
Liwal welcomed Iran’s support to the Afghans over the decades. “The people of Afghanistan will never forget support from Iranians.”
