KABUL (Pajhwok): Vice President Amrullah Saleh’s reaction to a recent Taliban’s warning about hanging of their imprisoned colleagues turned controversial on Saturday.
“Daesh mentality Taliban warned us if their sentenced colleagues are hanged, they would turn Kabul into a slaughterhouse of Shia people and would behead those in their captivity,” Saleh wrote after his Saturday 6:30 meeting.
Saleh ordered the National Directorate of Security (NDS) to tell all Taliban prisoners inspired from Daesh mentality to send message to their masters that the government knew their bases and roots.
After the report was published, Presidential Spokesperson Shah HussainMurtazavi responded that frightening Shia people was not allowed.
He said the Taliban and Daesh were the enemy of people and Shia community should not be presented in the media as a symbol of fear.
Haji Mohaqiq, head of the WahdatIslami political party, said: “Officials should act responsibility in their propaganda campaign, the term ‘Slaughtering Shia’ in Kabul from a top government official would create an atmosphere of insecurity in the community”
In response to Murtazavi and Mohaqiq, Saleh wrote: “We have no legal-political or social obligation to cover the truth for thoughts and actions of our enemy. The enemy must be introduced to the people very naked.”
He said over the years, people have been demanding the government speak blatantly and open.
