LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Families displaced by recent violence in southern Helmand province say are faced with severe economic hardship and complain that aid is not being distributed to those in need .
The refugee department says the recent fighting forced about 5600 families to flee home and move to Lashkargah and some other areas.
Khair Mohammad Aka, a displaced person, told Pajhwok Afghan News that they fled fighting and now faced with severe economic, other problems.
“We spend the night under the open sky in this cold winter but the refugee department distributes aid to its own people and does not give it to us.”
Another resident Nasrullah said he fled to Lashkargah city two months ago due to heavy fighting in Nahr-e-Saraj district and now they lived in a dilapidated house in Safyan area. “Our children have all fallen sick,” he said.
A number of other displaced people expressed similar views and asked the government and Taliban militants to stop fighting so that they could return to their areas and get out of trouble.
Refugee Affairs Director Sayed Mohammad RaminIbrahimi said 5,600 families had been displaced due to the on-going fighting in the province.
He said their teams had surveyed 4,000 families and provided much-needed assistance to 2600 families so far and were trying to help all the displaced families but would take time and resources.
According to Ibrahimi, all the aid is distributed transparently by a commission to deserving people and anyone found guilty of fraud would be referred to the judiciary.
