MAZAR-I-SHARIF/MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Tens of teachers in northern Balkh, eastern Laghman and north-eastern Badakhshan province on Sunday staged protests to demand a pay raise and increase in annual privileges
NajibullahSultani, head of the Balkh Teachers Union, said the government should implement its promise pertaining to an increase in teachers’ salaries and other privileges.
He said there was no balance in salaries of government servants due to which plenty of problems had generated.
“A teacher gets 8,000afs monthly salary while another government servant in ministries and Administrative Affairs Office gets 200,000afs to 300,000afs salary,” he said.
He stressed that teachers should be economically sound so they could pay attention to their profession.
Separately, tens of teachers in Laghman province staged protest demanding increase in their salaries and annual privileges.
They said their current salary was insufficient to meet their needs and they were economically under pressure.
MaulviRahimullah, head of the Laghman Teachers Council, asked the government to increase salaries of teachers.
“Teachers are not treated well, we work half day and cannot work elsewhere as well but our salaries are very low,” he said.
